MORGAN COUNTY -- A Morgan County firefighter is fighting for his life, following a positive test for COVID-19.
According to Monroe Township Fire Chief Stephan Lathan, Luis Corona has been on a ventilator since March 29. Corona works part time for the Monroe and Madison township departments in Morgan County and for the Eli Lilly Fire Department.
Corona's wife and and children have also tested positive for the virus and are quarantined at home.
"Luis has dedicated much of his adult life volunteering for our fire department, the boy scouts, his church, coaching soccer, and many other local organizations," said Lathan. "He has helped hundreds of sick people in our community and put out countless fires around Monrovia. Luis will not be able to return to work for the foreseeable future and will definitely need help paying essential bills."
Fundraising efforts are underway. A "Luisstrong" yard sign can be purchased for $20 at Fire Station 51 in Monrovia, or the department will deliver a sign for those who can't make it to the station. To make arrangements for picking up a sign or having one delivered, call: 317-996-6095.
