INDIANAPOLIS — RTV6's Rafael Sanchez had a chance to sit down and discuss several topics with White House Dr. Deborah Birx, a leader of the White House Coronavirus Task Force. Those topics included Indiana's statewide mask mandate and whether this is the right time to open schools.
Educators, parents, and students are all concerned about the scheduled return to school just around the corner. Dr. Birx says if Hoosiers "commit themselves to wearing masks in every single public place ... we can get our kids in school."
"Your test positivity will drop dramatically, cases will drop, and we'll have a tremendous impact on the spread of this virus," Dr. Birx said about every person wearing a mask.
"We know that children get less disease. But we're also concerned about the parents in multi-generational households, and we're concerned about the teachers," Dr. Birx said.
