INDIANAPOLIS — A staff member at the Indiana Women's Prison and an inmate at Plainfield Correctional Facility are the latest deaths from COVID-19 connected with the Indiana Department of Corrections.

The staff member at the Indiana Women's Prison is the second confirmed death among staff members inside the IDOC. Sunday evening, the department released a statement about the death of correction officer Gary Weinke, 67, the first staff member to die from COVID-19.

Weinke died Saturday from complications of COVID-19.

The identity or position of the Indiana Women's Prison staff member who died has not been released.

The Department of Corrections also reported a third inmate at Plainfield Correctional Facility has died from COVID-19. A fourth inmate who died at the Westville Correctional Facility was the first inmate death reported from COVID-19.

At least 133 staff members and 298 offenders have tested positive for COVID-19 at IDOC facilities. The IDOC reports that 3,675 offenders are currently in quarantine and an additional 605 inmates are in isolation inside several prisons across the state due to COVID-19.
