INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Corrections reported Monday three more inmates at a Henry County prison have died with COVID-19.
The new figures from IDOC reflect three recent inmate deaths at the New Castle Correctional Facility. The total death toll from the novel coronavirus among offenders and staff members at Indiana prisons now stands at 26.
Statewide, 24 offenders have died with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19. There have also been two state prison staff members who died after testing positive for the virus.
According to the IDOC numbers, there have been tests administered to 2,127 staff members with 447 positive cases. There have been 4,457 tests administered to offenders with 1,138 positive cases.
To date, eight inmates have died at Plainfield Correctional Facility, six at Westville, five at New Castle, four at Pendleton and one at Miami.
Westville has the most confirmed cases of COVID-19 among inmates at 223 and staff with 114, according to IDOC.
