PLAINFIELD — Two inmates have died from COVID-19 at Plainfield Correctional Facility, according to the latest numbers from the Indiana Department of Corrections.

Plainfield Correctional Facility reports the second highest number of inmate cases in the state with 47 confirmed to have COVID-19. The first inmate death was reported at Westville Correctional Facility earlier this month, which has the highest number of COVID-19 cases among inmates.

Dave Bursten with the IDOC said both inmates passed away on Sunday. They were both in their 60s.

IDOC reported that the first inmate death at Westville Correctional Facility was a man in his 70s.

So far a total of 221 inmates from 7 different correctional facilities have been diagnosed with COVID-19. IDOC says 83 employees have also tested positive, although they do not release details of staff locations or conditions.
