Body found 'burned beyond recognition' on Indy's northeast side ruled homicide

INDIANAPOLIS -- The death of person whose body was found badly burned on Indianapolis' northeast side late Wednesday night has been ruled a homicide, according to police. 

The Marion County Coroner said Marcus Ford, 46, died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police and firefighters were called to the area of 37th Street and Drexel Avenue just after 11 p.m.

The firefighters extinguished the fire, but the Ford was pronounced dead by medical personnel. 

Thursday morning, police said the body was "burned beyond recognition.

The death remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
