INDIANAPOLIS – The mother of the 9-year-old fatally shot in the face Monday said she has lots of questions on how the tragic incident happened.
Mykah Jackson had just turned 9 years old when he was shot in the face by another child while they were playing with a gun in an apartment on Indy’s north side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
After the shooting, Jackson was taken to St. Vincent Hospital where he died.
Jackson was visiting his father for the summer, but lived with his mother full-time in Elkhart, Indiana. Neighbors said Jackson's father ran out of the building cradling his son in his arms and another neighbor called 911.
Pepsi Williams, Jackson’s mother, said she is trying to sort out the facts.
“He was active. He was fun, loving, playful, you know. He was a good boy,” said Williams. “I don't know. I just want answers for closure. Once I made it to Indianapolis that night, the police were investigating two crime scenes and I still don't understand why.”
Williams said she found out when another one of her sons called her in tears.
“He was an honor student. He was athletic. He was smart, respectful. I never had complaints from anybody about my kid,” said Williams.
Jackson’s funeral will take place in Elkhart.
