When Madonna first released "Like a Virgin" 30 years ago, some wanted it banned. Now, it's being sung on the streets of Italy by a nun.

Sister Cristina Scuccia, an Italian Ursuline nun who won "The Voice of Italy" in June, has released the cover of "Like a Virgin" as part of album that comes out on Nov. 11.

While some Catholics have criticized the video, the 26-year-old Scuccia told Catholic daily Avvenire:

"I chose it myself, without any desire to provoke or cause a scandal. By reading the text, without letting yourself be influenced by previous [interpretations], you discover that it is a song about the ability of love to renew people, to redeem them from their past. And that’s how I wanted to interpret it."

She says it is "testimony of God’s capacity to turn all things into something new."

Madonna, apparently, has her back. She has voiced her approval of the cover of her 1984 hit on Instagram and Twitter. Below is a Tweet that includes a photoshopped of Madonna and Succia.
