Toronto’s former mayor Rob Ford, who was stripped of most powers after he admitted to using crack cocaine, has been elected to the city council that tried to oust him.
He won easily, The Toronto Star reports.
Ford became internationally notorious after the release of videos that showed him smoking crack cocaine in 2013. When Ford refused calls to resign, the city council transferred most of his powers to the deputy mayor. He completed rehab and returned to the job.
Rob Ford initially ran for reelection as mayor, but stepped down and withdrew from the race after being diagnosed with abdominal cancer in September.
Doug Ford, his older brother and former council member, was on the ballot for mayor but lost, according to The Toronto Star.
Ford will represent Toronto’s Ward 2, which he represented for a decade before being elected mayor in 2010.
