INDIANAPOLIS — The future of math at four Indianapolis middle schools is being transformed so students can have a brighter future.
On Wednesday, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and the interim superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools announced Crossroads Education will receive a $750,000 grant.
The grant was made possible by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. the "Bright Spots Math Grant" will expand its "learning commons" model to create unique near-peer learning spaces.
"It is our responsibility to fan and stoke those flames of inspiration, curiosity, brilliance in those young people," Shy-quon Ely, with Ignite Achievement Academy, said. "To imagine spaces like this that will allow this expression of genius to manifest."
The grant was designed to ensure African American, Hispanic and low-income students will enjoy math by ninth grade.
The schools receiving the grant are Ignite Academy, Matchbook Learning, Indianapolis Academy of Excellence and Paramount School of Excellence.
