INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Public Schools school board tonight will consider a proposal to give teachers a pay raise.
According to the proposal, some teachers may retroactively get between 3 to 9 percent for one year. The average payout of the proposal is $2,500.
The total amount available to be split among educators is $5.2 million.
The money is a result of recent district cost-cutting efforts being reused to reward teachers whose pay lags behind their counterparts in other Marion County school systems. The dollars have no connection to a referendum recently passed by voters. The district will not have access to those funds until June.
The school board meets at 6 p.m. tonight at the Ed Center, 120 E. Walnut St.
