Fantasy football: Real cash

Posted

Fantasy football has gone from mom’s basement to board rooms.

What once was a hobby for the eclectic has become a pastime for 41 million people in the United States and Canada, according to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. Fantasy football even became the basis for a popular television show

Major outlets such as ESPN and Yahoo! have reaped the benefits from the multi-billion dollar industry by providing contests, customizable features and catered content for fantasy players.

Some people take fantasy sports pretty seriously with practice drafts, hours of analysis and slick memorabilia to commemorate titles.

In fact, outplacement consultancy group Challenger, Gray & Christmas estimates employers will lose more than $13 billion in lost productivity to workers spending time on fantasy sports.
