GREENWOOD, Ind. — Dozens of children went shopping for new warm clothes with Indianapolis firefighters on Saturday.
Indianapolis firefighters helped 50 children pick out new warm clothes Saturday at JCPenney in Greenwood.
The event is part of the Fill the Bell to Clothe a Child program.
Each year, about $10,000 is spent to clothe children in need for the winter.
Firefighters who organize the event say they fill a need in the community every day, putting out fires and responding to emergencies but events, like Clothe-A-Child, is another need they are happy to fulfill.
“There’s another need on the other side of that. Where people are doing without clothes, doing without food… and we wanted to help that need as well,” Greg Tharpe, co-chairman of Fill the Bell, Clothe a Child program said.
The program is solely funded by donations. It’s been one of IFD’s charities for more than 50 years.
