CLINTON CO. — Clinton County Central Dispatchers instructed a grandmother through delivering her first grandchild on Wednesday morning, as her daughter went into labor on the way to the hospital.
Kathy Trillingham and her daughter, Brie Trillingham, were on their way to the hospital around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday when they decided they better call for help.
Curtis Herring gets a lot of calls as a dispatcher, but this one he wasn't expecting.
When Herring answered, Kathy said, "I don't think I'm going to make it to the hospital. I think my daughter is going to have her baby in the car."
Kathy and Brie were headed westbound on State Road 26, on there way to Lafayette, when Brie said she could feel the baby's head.
Herring, despite Brie's wanting to keep driving to the hospital, then instructed Kathy to pull over immediately because she was about to deliver her grandchild.
Brie gave birth to a baby boy at 7:08 a.m. in the car on the side of the road. Paramedics arrived two minutes after the birth.
This was Kathy's first grandson, and first car-delivery.
