BROWNSTOWN — A special education teacher in southern Indiana and her husband are great examples of just how magical this holiday season can be.

Deb Schwartz hopes to make each of her students feel special every day. But for 19-year-old Dylan Bridges, there wasn't always a lot of good.

Bridges was in foster care, and the situation wasn't the best. That's when Schwartz took her compassion beyond the classroom.

Schwartz and her husband adopted Bridges.

Now, he's thriving not only at home but in the classroom.

"It was awesome, and I love living with Deb, and she's the best," Bridges said.

"He's come a long way, and he's happy," Schwartz said. "And if he's happy, I'm happy."

Dylan says his dream is to one day have a home of his own and live independently. Schwartz and her husband say, if that's his goal, they are going to make that happen.

They plan on building him a small apartment on their property.
