Missing road barrier worries Noblesville residents

NOBLESVILLE — Residents of an east side Noblesville neighborhood hope the city will hurry up and fix a road hazard on Cherry Street.

A city spokesman says a suspected drunk driver took out a concrete barrier over a culvert on Cherry Street, just east of 19th Street in September.

For now, cones have been placed where the barrier was.

People who live and drive in the area say it's an unsafe situation.

"Somebody could go off the road, there is no longer a barrier there," said B.J. Cheesman. "So that's a secondary road, not a primary road, it won't get plowed right away. A plow truck could go over too far and go off."

Jessica Morris says some drivers don't pay attention to the 25 mile-per-hour speed limit on Cherry Street and could leave the road where the barrier is missing.

"It's not like there is a little ledge you can drive into. If you was to get off right there, you'll go straight down and it would be a nasty little wreck," said Morris.

The Noblesville Street Department says there are plans to install a steel guardrail, but the project has been delayed.

Winter weather is part of the problem and the city says the contractor doing the work is having trouble getting supplies.

When installed, the steel guardrail should be safer than the concrete barrier.

RTV6 will continue to follow this story and make sure the road is improved.
