INDIANAPOLIS — Students at the J Everett Light Career Center are getting creative with technology in the world of manufacturing while preparing themselves to step into a successful field after graduation.
Instructor Kyle Marshall describes the Advanced Manufacturing Technology program as a place where students make things.
Students in the program can work on a variety of projects like 3D printing, laser printing and CNC machining. By completing the projects, students are learning the skills they need to grow in the fields of manufacturing and production while working on quality and continuous practices such as maintenance awareness and safety.
Marshall wants his students to become problem solvers so they can stand out to employers after graduation, so he has them training on as many tools as they can.
"Really everything that we do these days is manipulated some way by a machine or a piece of software," Marshall said. "My students are like that here in this class. Whether it's 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling, routing, we really try to tackle as much and work breath and not depth and hit as many technologies as we can."
The program will benefit students who want to become CNC machinists, drafting techs, material handling specialists and engineers.
