INDIANAPOLIS — IU Health is taking a new approach to fill up their nursing staff at their downtown hospitals.

Nurses have been in high-demand and the coronavirus pandemic has made those positions even more critical in hospitals across the country.

For the first time, IU Health is hosting a virtual hiring fair for nurses August 25-27.

There are openings for several hundred Registered Nurses across the IU Health hospital system across the state. This week, they are working to staff job openings at the hospitals in Downtown Indianapolis: Methodist and University Hospitals.

Candidates for the jobs can sign up for a 30-minute interview with hiring managers. If they are a good fit, IU Health will be making hiring offers on the spot.

"We have been able to avoid any workforce reductions or furloughs like we know other systems have experienced so we have been hiring throughout and if anything we are trying to staff up because we want to support our community and you know, we don't know what the fall will bring but every nursing role filled is a way we can best care for patients," Jennifer Weinmann, executive director of talent acquisition at IU Health, said.

There are full and part-time positions available as well as opportunities across the different units at Methodist and University.

This is the first virtual hiring event with IU Health and the Weinmann says they plan on conducting more in the future with positive feedback so far.
