PARKE CO. — The pandemic is forcing another business to change plans, as they're now looking for more people to make a three-sided plastic product that will help protect you and your children.

The pieces of plastic have multiple purposes. They can take shape in creating folders for office supplies, farm-related products, or sinks for recreational vehicles.

"We are proud of our people and what we've accomplished," Brent Thompson, the president of "AGI Products," said.

AGI Products — which hasn't laid off a person during the pandemic — is turning out what it calls the "Desk Defender."

In fact, the company is hiring to meet the expected demand for a product meant for kids to take to school or their parents to their office jobs.

"The social and emotional learning we have to build a safe environment for the children to learn and to be safe," Thompson said.

And just to make sure the Defender lasts longer than a box of crayons or a bookbag, it underwent some testing.

"Ran it with a forklift. It did not break — we've thrown this thing on the ground and confident it will hold up for the whole year," Jeremy Wilson, AGI Products employee, said. "One year warranty on any type of breakage."

So, plastic is playing a practical purpose to slow the progress of the pandemic.

The company has several locations, including in Vigo and Parke Counties that are hiring.
