INDIANAPOLIS — Presidential advisor, Ivanka Trump, was in Indianapolis to talk about jobs on Thursday.
She was at the Salesforce tower in downtown Indianapolis to promote the white house initiative on getting companies to focus on providing training for its workforce.
Ivanka talked about this national call to action along with Salesforce, as they ware stepping up its pledge to make sure more people have the skills they need to succeed.
The chairman of Salesforce, Marc Benioff, was in Indianapolis to officially sign The White House Pledge to America's Workers. He initially pledged to train, or skill-up, a half million people — now, it's one million.
During the event, Ivanka spoke about how employers need to invest in their communities, their employees, and the employees' skills.
"We don't even know the jobs that all the brilliant innovators will create through the technologies, and through the start ups that either enable or launch yourself. We don't know exactly what the future will look like, but we have a pretty good sense of the fact that it's changing rapidly, more rapidly than ever before. And learning cannot be compartmentalized to a a period of time in our life. That's zero through 16 or 18 or 22. Or even 40. That we constantly need to be sharpening our skills. So, whether it's in response to a layoff and I don't need more or whether it's more generally wanting to take the work that you're doing in the career path that you're on and create a different trajectory for yourself. So, I think, as a society, our goal can be about learning differently, as a lifelong pursuit. And if we can celebrate equally all the great pathways and remove the stigma that exists for not securing a degree, but instead focus on the skills that you've earned through the experience in life, experiences you've had, I think we will all be better off."
More than 200 companies are participating in The White House Training Pledge.
