NEWBERRY — Danny Marshall was living in Tennessee when he began looking for a new job in Indianapolis, but his future and skills would land him farther south.
"This place is about innovation and innovation is one of my passions" Marshall said.
Marshall is working on developing the next generation of battery power. It's intense work, it requires an inquisitive mind, and patience is a must.

"We test batteries, solar cells, IOT devices, whatever we get so I have to have a lot of knowledge to know how to interface with those products and test them," Marshall said.
Marshall works at the Battery Innovation Center also known as the BIC. What happens here helps determine how numerous products from an iPad to your vehicle is powered.
Marshall is a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was working in Tennessee when he applied for a job in Indianapolis and his interviewer remembered our Hiring Hoosiers story from February.
Ben Wrightsman, BIC president and chief executive officer, said there is a great demand for people in this field.
"With the help of WRTV6 we have a local person that saw it gave us a call and said, 'I just talked to a candidate a few weeks ago and he might be of interest to you guys,'" Wrightsman said. "We got ahold of Danny by phone, brought him up here one week and were pretty much blown away."
"I didn't even apply to this job," Marshall said. "I was referred because of Hiring Hoosiers so I thought that was really really cool."

The BIC was not on his radar, but he's pleased it was there to put his skills to work.
"Continue the kind of work that Hiring Hoosiers does because obviously everyone needs talent so we can market ourselves then and have a platform," Marshall said.
