Jury selection is underway in the trial of a former Harrison High School teacher accused of criminal deviate conduct.
The trial will take place in Vanderburgh Circuit Court.
Jordan McGuire, 27, is accused of giving alcohol to a former student and performing a sex act on him against his will in 2012.
He has been free on bond pending the trial and living in Carbondale, Illinois. Earlier this year, prosecutors unsuccessfully sought to have his bond revoked based on a Carbondale Police Department investigation into a possible sexual assault involving McGuire that Deputy Prosecutor Mike Perry said involved allegations similar to the Evansville case, according to court records.
Scott Danks, McGuire’s defense attorney, argued that no charges were filed in the Carbondale case even though police there had finished an investigation.
If convicted of the Vanderburgh County charge, McGuire could receive between six and 20 years in prison. He was arrested in March 2012, nine days after he resigned his teaching job.
His arrest stemmed from an Evansville Police Department investigation into information from an 18-year-old male who told detectives McGuire supplied him and other underage males with alcohol during a party at an apartment in January 2012, according to his arrest affidavit. Police said the 18-year-old told authorities about the alleged incident during an interview at Holly’s House.
