INDIANAPOLIS -- If you tried to make a call without dialing 317, chances are you received an error message.
October 15, marked the date any calls made with seven numbers will no longer go through in the Indianapolis area.
The change is in part to make way for the new 463 area code. Anyone getting a new number will receive a 463 area code instead of a 317 area code.
The good news - there shouldn't be any additional changes for the next 49 years.
911, 811, 411 and 211 will all work as they have always worked.
If you have an alarm system or medical alert device and are unsure if it will need to be reprogrammed you should contact your service provider.
