BLOOMINGTON — The number of cases of mumps at Indiana University in Bloomington continues to rise.
Officials at Indiana University in Bloomington on Wednesday said they have confirmed 16 cases of mumps.
Chuck Carney, university spokesman, said nine of the cases are linked to one fraternity.
"We are continuing to monitor the situation," Carney said.
Carney said university officials have been in contact with representatives of the Indiana State Department of Health, Monroe County Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A campus-wide vaccination clinic hasn't been recommended by state health officials at this point, Carney said. A clinic was offered to those linked to the fraternity, he said.
"We're going to continue to monitor and stay on top of it," he said.
Symptoms for mumps include swollen and tender salivary glands under the ears on one or both sides, fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and a loss of appetite.
