JOHNSON CO., Ind. -- A Greenwood man is being investigated for possible neglect of a dependent after his 2-year-old daughter was found wandering alone.

A deputy responded to the intersection of Stormhaven Way and Havenridge Pass shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.

Ashley Judge told the deputy that she saw a little girl walking down the road and stopped to check on her.

Judge says the girl was wearing a shirt and pants and was carrying a blanket.

She says several neighbors came out and they gave the child water and toys to play with.

The girl couldn't tell them where she lived because of her young age.

Judge told the deputy that she found the same child walking around in only a diaper, shirt and adult-sized flip flops about two months ago.

In that instance, the father came looking for the girl after about 15 minutes.

On Thursday, Judge says it took about 40 minutes between the time she found the child and when the deputy located her father.

It turns out, the girl was found about 1/4 mile away from her home.

Child protective services was called. The child's grandmother also showed up at the scene.

The Johnson County Sheriff's says the case has been sent to the prosecutor's office for review.

"We wanted to thank Ashley for doing the right thing and stress to others do do the same thing. Stop and check the child and contact law enforcement," said Doug Cox, Johnson Co. Sheriff.
