MUNCIE — It's a major loss for Muncie. Macy's say it will close its store at the Muncie Mall later this year.

Macy's exit will leave the mall with only J.C. Penny's as an anchor store.

An exact closing date has not been announced, but it will happen after a clearance sale lasting two-or-three months, according to a company spokesperson.

The company issued this statement: The decision to close a store is always a difficult one, but Macy’s is proud to have served the Muncie community over the past 24 years, and we look forward to do so at Macy’s Castleton Square and online at macys.com.

As is this case with many malls across the country, the Muncie Mall is going through tough times, with many vacant storefronts and many questions about the future.
