INDIANAPOLIS — Five abandoned Indianapolis babies, who did not survive, now have names and a final resting place.

They were laid to rest Friday at Washington Park East Cemetery after being abandoned recently at Indianapolis hospitals and the Marion County Coroner's Office.

The "He Knows Your Name" ministry organized and conducted the funerals for Alice Pearl, Nellie Ruby, Alyssa Jean, Braxton and Nazir. The organization has held past funerals, but Friday's was the first with five abandoned babies.

“Hospital abandonments are on the rise. By raising awareness to this issue, we can hopefully offer more support, resources and understanding of the needs families have. It is also my hope that our community will become educated about funeral home services that are provided at a reasonable cost,” said Linda Znachko, founder of He Knows Your Name.

The ministry describes itself as "rooted in the conviction that every life is sacred to God, and that naming children matters deeply. He Knows Your Name ministry gives children dignity and honor in death by celebrating their life."

Znachko is joined in her efforts by Indiana Funeral Home, Washington Park East Cemetery, Little Angel Gowns and Antioch Church.
