BLOOMINGTON — Finding decent and affordable housing is a challenge for many Hoosiers.

The City of Bloomington is trying to do something about that.

Ground has been broken on Bloomington's latest affordable housing project.

Switchyard Apartments will be located just south of downtown, near Switchyard Park and Rogers Street.

There will be two buildings, each with eight units, reserved for people whose income falls below the median for the Bloomington area — with three of those designated for the disabled.

According to the mayor's office, Bloomington has recently added more than 300 affordable housing units at four sites.

Switchyard Apartments will be built by nonprofit developer South Central Indiana Housing Opportunities.
