FISHERS—Police in Fishers are hoping to find whoever is responsible for setting fire to a prominent American flag on the Fourth of July.
According to Fishers Police Public Information Office Tom Weger, the cloth flag hangs from the back of the stage at the Nickle Plate Amphitheater—an open-air facility on Municipal Drive in downtown Fishers.
Police believe the flag was set on fire late-Thursday, causing significant damage.
Reaction came quickly from Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness: "It's unfortunate that someone or a few people thought this was a good way to celebrate the 4th. Our police and fire departments will celebrate the 5th. trying to find them," said Fadness.
Police suspect the flag burning was an act of juvenile vandalism. At about the same time late-Thursday, a fire was set in the elevator of a Fishers apartment building and a decorative wreath on the front door of a house was burned.
Police are checking security cameras in the area of the amphitheater for possible video of the flag burning and they are asking for the public's help in finding those responsible.
