ANDERSON — A 34-year-old Anderson woman faces charges in the death of her one-month-old daughter.

Samantha Madore is charged with "Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death." Details about the baby's death are contained in a probable cause affidavit from the Madison County Prosecutor.

The case has been under investigation for two months.

On September 25, the infant, who was not breathing, arrived at the emergency room of St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson and was pronounced dead a short time later. An autopsy listed the cause of death as "sudden unexplained infant death with contributing cause of bedsharing in an unsafe sleep environment."

According to the probable cause, at the time of the baby's death, Madore tested positive for methamphetamine use. She was screened two days later and also tested positive for meth.

When questioned by Anderson Police Detective Jake Brooks, she admitted to sleeping in the same bed with her daughter, then woke up and discovered the infant was not breathing. She said she thought she was cradling the child as she fell asleep, but wasn't sure. According to Brooks, "Samantha stated she did not remember a lot of things from this night."

In his report, Brooks said, "Samantha Madore knowingly placed her infant child is a situation that endangered the child's life while having methamphetamines within her system."

Madison County court records do not list hearing dates yet for Madore.
