MADISON — At Clifty Falls State Park, the hiking can be pretty rugged on some trials. That's the way the terrain is at the popular park on the Ohio River just outside Madison.
Hikers are noticing some improvements this year. According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, park employees have rebuilt several trail staircases. That means better access to the park's waterfalls and other attractions.
Clifty Falls is about 90-miles southeast of Indianapolis. It's known for Ohio River views and waterfalls, which change with the seasons. Clifty Creek’s stony bed is littered with fossil remnants from a long vanished marine ecosystem that teemed with life.
The park features campgrounds and the Clifty Inn, which includes a restaurant.
