COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A Japan-based manufacturing company will spend about $90 million to expand operations in Columbus, Indiana.
Automotive supplier NTN Driveshaft will add up to 100 new jobs by 2023 when it installs two new hot forge presses and constant velocity joint assembly equipment at its facility. It will also renovate 60,000 square feet of space, and add another 20,000 square feet.
"Columbus, Indiana, is proud to be home to the largest, most successful facility within NTN’s significant global footprint,” said Mayor Jim Lienhoop. “Our local administration, current and past City Councils, and our economic development partners are pleased to support the continued growth of NTN Driveshaft in Columbus, Indiana, and we gladly welcome today’s announced $90 million expansion.”
NTN Driveshaft began operations in Columbus in 1991. More than 2,000 people are employed at the Indiana NTN Driveshaft locations. The parent company, NTN Corporation, was first established in 1918.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered NTN Driveshaft up to $750,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company's plans to create 100 new jobs by 2023. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives.
Hiring for the new expansions are scheduled to begin in mid-2019.
