BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington teen is one of six people nationwide to be awarded a $25,000 Live Mas Scholarship through the Taco Bell Foundation.

In a news release issued Thursday, the Taco Bell Foundation announced it is awarding $4.6 million in Live Mas Scholarships to 531 students and employees nationwide from more than 13,000 applications. Megan Humphreys-Savell, 19, of Bloomington, is one of only six employee winners to be awarded the $25,000 scholarship.

Megan has had a passion for art since she was a child, but in junior high she was separated from her family and placed in foster care. Throughout her time in foster care and her adoption, art remained an outlet for expression. A high school art teacher inspired her to pursue art as a career and teach students just like her.

Megan works at Taco Bell to pay for her classes at Ivy Tech Community College and works as a teacher's aide to gain experience. Her dream is to transfer to Indiana University to complete her bachelor's degree in the fine arts program.

According to the release, the Taco Bell Foundation has now awarded $10.7 million in scholarships and is committed to awarding $21 million in scholarships by 2021.
