LEBANON, Ind. -- Family members have identified a 17-year-old who was shot and killed outside a muffler shop in Boone County Monday afternoon.
Lebanon Police Department officers were called to the parking lot of J&J Muffler in the 1400 block of West South Street around 1:30 p.m.
When they arrived they found the teen lying outside of a vehicle suffering from at least one gunshot wound. That teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members have identified that teen as Jamie Dover.
Dover's cousin, Harmoni Fuston says she was at the pool when she got the news.
"Everybody was talking about a shooting that happened over by Ice Cream Paradise and I was like what if it was Jamie? Because it was two juveniles," Fuston said. "I tried to call him and he didn't answer and I called his girlfriend and I was like 'Where is Jamie? Is he OK?' She said, 'No he's dead.'"
Fuston says her cousin wasn't perfect but she loved him like a brother.
"Jamie was locked up for a while but when he got out me and him got real close," Fuston said.
Police say two teens were taken into custody at the scene. A 16-year-old is suspected of firing the shot. That teen is currently being held at a juvenile detention center pending formal charges.
Because of the suspect's age, their name will not be released at this time.
