BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- Across the United States, Tuesday was Peace Officers Memorial Day, honoring officers who have died in the line of duty.
In Boone County, Indiana, that meant something special. Officials held a service dedicated to the memory of Deputy Jacob Pickett.
Pickett was killed in March while he and other officers were in pursuit of a suspect.

Tuesday, Pickett's colleagues paused again to honor his sacrifice.
"Though his thoughtful and compassionate planning as an organ donor, he was able to provide life and enrichment to others," Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielson said. "Deputy Pickett had served with the Boone County Sheriff's Office for three years, the Tipton County Sheriff's Office for two years, and the Marion County Sheriff's Office for three years. He is survived by his wife and two children."
Pickett's name was also added to the Boone County Officer's Memorial outside the courthouse.
