DARLINGTON, Ind. -- The father of the suspect in the fatal shooting of a Boone County sheriff's deputy has apologized for what happened.
Deputy Jacob Pickett was shot and killed Friday while assisting the Lebanon Police Department with a pursuit and foot chase on Friday.
Anthony Baumgardt, 21, is accused of shooting Pickett.
Baumgardt's father, Robert, took to Facebook to convey his sadness about what happened.
"I am just numb," Robert Baumgardt wrote.
Anthony Baumgardt is facing multiple preliminary charges:
- Murder
- Resisting Law Enforcement
- Carrying a Handgun without a License
- Possession of Marijuana
- Possession of Methamphetamine between 5-10 grams
- Possession of Methamphetamine below 5 grams
Anthony Baumgardt was shot by another officer after he fired at Deputy Pickett and was being treated at Methodist Hospital until he was released into police custody over the weekend. He was transferred to Hamilton County "for safe keeping." Suspects accused of shooting officers are typically moved from the county where the shootings took place.
"I am so sorry," Robert Baumgardt wrote.

A court hearing date has not yet been set for Anthony Baumgardt, and no further details about the shooting have been released.
