Fundraiser helps purchase bulletproof vests for police K-9s

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- The American Legion Post 497 gathered Saturday to help raise money for a special cause.

Dylan Beck lost his life three years ago to suicide but he is still making an impact on law enforcement.

"My son was the most awesome amazing kid, he was my only child," Dylan's mother, Jessica Beck said. "And I love him and miss him every day."

The ride helped to raise money to purchase bullet-proof vests for police K-9s. Each of the vests will say "in loving memory of Dylan Beck."

"When you walk into a situation no matter if you're police or fire, you don't know what you're dealing with in today's society," Andy Harris of the Wayne Township Fire Department said. "When you have a community that steps up, and gives back it makes us feel really good."

Each of the vests can cost thousands of dollars.

The first vest will be given to the replacement officer who took Deputy Jacob Pickett's K-9 after he was fatally shot in the line of duty in March 2018.
