LEBANON, Ind. – A Lebanon woman operating a wildlife rescue center out of her home has been forced to relocate by the end of the month as city officials said she has broken zoning laws.
Katja Craft only calls a few of the animals her pets – like a raccoon named Juliette and a squirrel named Silver. The rest of the wildlife animals, that include possums and birds, have been rescued, she said.
Craft said she nurses them back to health and then releases them, but the City of Lebanon has forced her to make a tough decision.
“By the end of September, I have to have all animals gone and then I basically won't be able to help anything until we move,” said Craft.
She found a new property nearby that will allow her to keep her operation afloat, but it’s attached to a $106,000 price tag.
Craft started a Gofundme page where she is asking for help so she can continue to care for the animals.
"It should make people feel good to help wildlife and I know I'm asking a lot, but I figured if 100,000 people see this and everybody just gives a dollar, these animals have a chance,” she said.
