BROWNSBURG — What do Brownsburg residents want in a proposed community center?
Three public meetings this week will discuss what's being called a "multigenerational community center" at Arbuckle Acres Park.
The meetings are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday — all at 6:30 p.m. at Brownsburg Fire Territory headquarters, 470 East Northfield Drive.
Brownsburg is a growing community — its population up by over 12,000 in less than 20-years and currently stands at 27,500.
Brownsburg Community Engagement Manager Mary Louise Bewley says for more than 30 years, residents of the Hendricks County town have requested a year-round pool in a community center.
The pool at Brownsburg High School is open to the public, but isn't always available due to school activities.
"The top park amenities the community requests can be housed in a community center for year-round enjoyment," Bewley said. "The amenities are: a pool or pools, indoor fitness and exercise space, walking track, and community space for seniors and special events."
The three public meetings will give residents a chance to hear from architects and designers to determine the size of the facility, what will be in it, and how much it will cost.
The Brownsburg Town Council and Parks Board would have to sign off on the project, which could be finished in four years, according to Bewley.
