CARMEL, Ind. -- Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard will be getting a raise to his salary, but not as big as he had proposed.
The city council passed the salary ordinance Monday evening with a 3-0 vote, but with a change, stating that elected officials will get a 2 percent raise across the board. That means that the mayor, city council, clerk treasurer and judge would all get a 2 percent increase in their salary.
Brainard's original proposal included a $50,000 raise for his annual pay, which would have put his salary at nearly $180,000, almost twice what Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett makes. Instead, Brainard's salary will increase by about $2,500.
The employee salary ordinance was also passed on Monday evening, with a stipulation that the council will pass an ordinance stating that pay in 2017 will be based on a 40-hour work week instead of a 37.5 hour work week.
Both ordinances will now go back to the full council for a vote.
