INDIANAPOLIS -- The Children's Museum of Indianapolis has asked for permission to build a 15,000-square-foot sports pavilion on the north side of its campus.
The "Sports Legend Experience" would include an 18-hole putting/mini-golf course, pedal car race tracks, track and family fitness loops, a street hockey area, soccer field and other recreational areas.
To complete the project, the Children's Museum has asked for zoning variances north of its existing facility between Meridian and Illinois streets up to 32nd Street – just south of the site of the former Winona Memorial Hospital.
If approved, the Sports Legend Experience would take up a sizeable chunk of the currently existing parking lot on the north side of the museum campus.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission was scheduled to take up the proposal Thursday night.
