Church to hold prayer vigil for Shaylyn Ammerman

SPENCER, Ind. -- The Family of God Church in Spencer is holding a prayer vigil for Shaylyn Ammerman Friday night.

The vigil will be held at Cooper Park in Spencer at 7:00 p.m.

"We are all brokenhearted as little Shaylyn's body has been found. We feel it is important to come together in this time of sorrow and pray for comfort and peace and to be support for one another," the church posted on Facebook.

Ammerman's body was found Thursday evening in a remote area near Gosport, Indiana 36 hours after her father reported her missing from the home in Spencer, Indiana, he shared with his mother. 

Kyle Parker, 22, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in connection with Shaylyn's disappearance. Police say they would wait for the Owen County Prosecutor's Office to decide on formal charges. 

The preliminary charges Parker is facing are: 

  • Two counts of obstruction of justice
  • One count of failure to report a dead body
  • One count of unlawful disposition of a dead body
