NOBLESVILLE — Plans for a proposed gravel pit at a Noblesville park are on hold after the company withdrew a change of zoning request necessary for the project to proceed.
Officials with the City of Noblesville said proposed rezoning to allow Beaver Materials to move forward with a gravel pit at Potter's Bridge Park will no longer be on the common council's agenda Tuesday. The company has the opportunity to refile the petition next year, the city said.
The project met with resistance from residents in Noblesville, some of whom formed a group — Don't Leave It to Beaver — to lobby against the proposal.
The group released a statement following news that the plans are on hold:
We are relieved that Beaver Materials has withdrawn its zoning request with the City of Noblesville. As we anticipate a future proposal, Don’t Leave It to Beaver will continue to watch the public record for updated documents related to this gravel pit. Any new proposals will need to go through the same process with the Plan Commission and Common Council. We’re prepared to continue the fight as long as it takes.
And at the same time, we are thankful. We are thankful for every citizen who voiced their concern to their elected officials. Thank you to everyone who signed our petitions – on paper or online – and to anyone who protested on street corners or attended our prayer vigil. Thank you to all who put up a yard sign, and to all who educated their friends, neighbors, and family on the risks this project posed to our community.
