The dispute over a $9.5 million lottery ticket was argued in a Marion County courtroom Wednesday afternoon.
Seven hairdressers asked a judge to grant a preliminary injunction to prevent a former coworker from collecting on that winning ticket.
All seven coworkers work at Lou’s Creative Styles located in the 5100 block of Franklin Road.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Speedway gas station in the 8100 block of East 21st Street.
The seven hairdressers were part of a group of eight that bought the ticket, and they said they all agreed to the rules of purchasing the tickets.
The most important rule was to not buy a personal ticket at the same location that group tickets are purchased.
Christina Shaw violated that rule when she bought the winning ticket, but said it was a personal purchase, not part of the group purchase.
Shaw’s former coworkers refused to comment on the matter.
The attorney for the hairdressers said he was disappointed they had to come to court to be treated fairly by their former coworker.
“We’ve always felt confident in the case ever since the ladies came to me and that is the road we are traveling,” said attorney Scott Montross.
The temporary restraining order will remain in place until the judge issues a ruling on the preliminary injunction which will happen Friday.
