INDIANAPOLIS — A water recovery operation has been called off Saturday evening for a missing man in the White River on the west side of Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Fire Department crews and emergency personnel were called around 6 p.m. to the area near West 21st Street and East Riverside Drive, after a couple took a selfie, noticed a capsized canoe and a man struggling in the background of the picture, IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith said.
A short time later, a woman told authorities her fiancé was canoeing and went missing, Reith said. Authorities believe it is the same person.
Fire fighters have retrieved the canoe, Reith said.
