2 dead following shooting at Menards on the northeast side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Two people are dead following a shooting at a Menards on the northeast side of Indianapolis Wednesday evening.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 7700 block of East 42nd Street on reports of a person shot at around 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located two adult male victims suffering from gunshot injuries. Those men were identified on Thursday as 24-year-old Olajawon Cowherd and 29-year-old Justin Do.

According to police, the shooting took place in the Menards lumber yard and involved a customer and one of the store’s security guards.

The security guard was transported to Methodist hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

The second victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Police say he later died due to his injuries.

According to IMPD, the security guard stopped a vehicle with multiple occupants exiting the lumber yard. A verbal disagreement led to a physical altercation between the driver and guard. Both men then shot each other.
