BLOOMINGTON — One person is dead, and another is injured after being shot in Bloomington early Sunday morning.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, officers responded to the 500 block of Park Avenue on a call regarding weapons at 2 a.m.

Police say witnesses on the scene told officers someone had been shot. A 23-year-old male victim was located suffering from a gunshot injury. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also located a second victim. A 19-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot injury and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, witnesses informed them a man wearing a pink shirt was wielding a handgun and fired the weapon into the air during a party.

Indiana State Police identified the suspect as a 21-year-old Linton man and located a handgun in his possession.

Police say witnesses told them the suspect and two other men were denied entry into the party because they had a visible handgun with them. Then, a physical altercation occurred that escalated into a shooting.

The suspect was taken to the Monroe County Jail.
