17-year-old male killed in far east side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS — A 17-year-old male died in a shooting on the far east side on Thursday night.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 11500 block of Brook Crossing Lane just after 7:30 p.m. for a report of a person down in the roadway.

Police said it was initially believed the person down was struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male victim suffering from a gunshot injury. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as 17-year-old Dashawn Anthony Gilbert.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Detectives canvased the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.
