INDIANAPOLIS — A person was killed and another was injured in a shooting Tuesday afternoon on the city's east side, police say.
IMPD says it is the 25th homicide in 25 days for the month of October.
Officers found both people while responding about 1:30 p.m. to the scene in the 2100 block of Bolton Avenue, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
One of the people shot was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Christopher Summers, 40.
Police described the other as "awake and breathing."
Investigators believe both people were outside at the time of the shooting.
Police haven't provided additional information.
Neighbors told WRTV they heard about 20 to 30 shots.
"I was sitting in here at the kitchen table and heard gunshots and they were kind of rapid one after another after another," a neighbor said. "I seen some guy running between both houses and saw he had a gun."
Another neighbor said he saw a man with a gun get into a white car and drive away.
"I was so scared. I was shaking like crazy," Ed Muray said. "I looked out the front room window with binoculars to see if I could see the license plate number but it was a paper plate and I couldn't see anything on it."
Another neighbor said crime has recently been on the rise in the neighborhood.
"Usually it's pretty quiet but lately here there's been a lot of shootings," Richard Winkleman said.
Muray said he used to walk around at night without fear, but now he said he can't.
"Too much violence, you walk down the road you might get shot," Muray said.
