1 person dead after shooting on Hoyt Avenue on east side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A man has died after he was shot early Thursday on the city's east side, police said.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched at 1:21 a.m. to the 3900 block of Hoyt Avenue, near English Avenue and South Sherman Drive, on a report of shots fired.

Police found the man, later identified as 20-year-old Charlie Siders, who had been shot. Medics transported Siders to an area hospital in critical condition, but he later died.

Police have not provided information about what might have led to the shooting.

The Thursday morning homicide comes during a violent week in Indianapolis. Five people were killed and one other was critically injured in a four-hour period on Tuesday.
